How to reach Trieste



BY PLANE

The International Airport of Trieste, “Ronchi dei Legionari” (www.aeroporto.fvg.it) is 33 km from the city.
regular train service runs from Trieste airport to Trieste railway station (journey time approx. 30 min). The ticket must be purchased before boarding the train.Alternatively, the City’s public transportation company “APT” operates a shuttle service between the airport and the city (Bus 51). The bus leaves every 30 minutes (every 1 hour on holidays). The journey takes about one hour.. 

Venice’s International Airport, “Marco Polo” (www.veneziaairport.it) is 150 km from Trieste. A shuttle service connects the airport to the Venezia-Mestre Railway Station. Ljubljana’s internationalairport (Slovenia) “www.lju-airport.si/sl/”  is another viable option being  114 km from Trieste.


BY TRAIN

Trieste’s railway station is in the city centre.

There are hourly trains to and from Venice-Mestre station, from where direct trains leave for Italy’s main cities.

BY CAR

The A4 toll highway connects Trieste with the Italian and European highway system. 

Coming from Venice, take the A4 and exit at Monfalcone-Lisert; then take The “Costiera” highway no. 14  or the “Triestina” highway, no.  202.

Coming from Slovenia, Take Highway 15, Via Flavia, crossing the border with Italy at the Rabuiese Border Crossing or, take highway 58 towards “Opicina”, crossing the border at the Fernetti Border Crossing, then take the “Triestina” Highway, no. 202. Alternatively, cross over to Italy at the Pesek Border Crossing via Highway 14, towards Trieste.

The city centre has ample parking facilities. Prepaid cards are available.

Weather in August 

The weather is very warm in August with average maximum daytime temperature of around 27.6°C (81.68°F), falling to around 20.4°C (68.72°F) at night.

Rainfall during August is moderate with an average 85mm (3.3 inches). There are generally around 7 rainy days. 

Usually, Trieste has around 260 hours of sun during the month of August.
