After the national launch on Wednesday 30 August, the 39th International Congress was also officially presented in Friuli Venezia Giulia, the Italian region that will host the event: the illustration took place as part of the LeggiAMO 0-18 Summer School in the presence of many educators, teachers, administrators, volunteers involved in a project to promote reading supported by the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, which has generously and with conviction supported the Congress as well and which confirms itself as a virtuous territory in bringing the younger generations closer to books and to the experiences of growth and relationships that reading promotes.
In recounting the themes of the Congress and the mandate of IBBY, Elisabetta Lippolis – on behalf of the presidency of IBBY Italy and the Organising Committee that she is in charge of coordinating – recalled the reasons why the choice fell on Friuli Venezia Giulia and Trieste in particular, and thanked all the entities that have encouraged and concretely supported this decision from the outset: in addition to the Region, the CEPELL-Centre for Books and Reading of the Ministry of Culture, which together with Anci has awarded Trieste the title of Reading City, and the Municipality of Trieste, promoter of a Pact for Reading signed by numerous bodies, institutions and subjects that collaborate on a stable basis to implement shared practices for the promotion of reading; he also invited all those present to involve and get involved in the path leading up to the event, an opportunity to further strengthen their commitment to the service of children, boys and girls.
