TRIESTE, ITALY: VENUE OF IBBY INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS 2024

On June 14, 2021, on the occasion of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, IBBY Italia announced the host city of the IBBY International Congress in 2024.

After Florence, in 1958, when Astrid Lindgren received the Hans Christian Andersen Award; and the then Bologna, in 1970, when it was Gianni Rodari to receive the Award, Italy will host IBBY’s 39th Congress in Trieste, selected among the many candidate cities identified by IBBY Italia.

The reasons for the choice of Trieste as host city were further illustrated during the presentation held at the following Fair, on 21 March 2022:

“Once again” -said at BCBF Tiziana Gibelli, Regional Councilor for Culture and Sport Tiziana Gibelli – “the city of Trieste and the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region prove to be among the privileged places for literature and culture. With the 39th IBBY 2024 International Congress, Trieste will become the international capital of children’s literature and illustrations, a sector on which the regional administration has greatly focused with reading promotion programmes and initiatives related to books and all related sectors”
